C⭒NDY L⭒ND was conceived as an homage to the bygone era of New York’s gay nightclubs at the height of their popularity, expressed through a mixture of erotica, editorial/fashion influence, and the personal sexual experiences of the artist.
C⭒NDY L⭒ND is an exhibition of new work by Brooklyn-based artist Kyle Quinn. Coinciding with NYC Pride Month, the show will feature a new body of lustful paintings, sculpture, and installation in celebration of the City’s queer cultural history.
C⭒NDY L⭒ND was conceived as an homage to the bygone era of New York’s gay nightclubs at the height of their popularity, expressed through a mixture of erotica, editorial/fashion influence, and the personal sexual experiences of the artist. The sparse colorscapes are dominated by a virile moody red, bolstering the bold homoeroticism exuded by the figures. Re-examining the work of earlier queer artists who have paved the way, Kyle Quinn honors them with a fresh infusion of strength and vision. The restraint shown by the artist in his use of color and material draws the personality and bravery of these figures to the forefront.
