Mia Enell is an interdisciplinary artist based in New York since 1998. Although she makes use of different media, Enell approaches her work with the internal logic of a painter. She is best known for her paintings, watercolors and drawings depicting the eccentricities of her inner life, often with humor and a surrealist bend. Visions and Haiku-like phrases - inspired by dreams, her surrounding life or drawn from the unconscious, are part of the work. Born in 1967 in Sweden, Enell grew up in a family of painters, and spent her childhood between Gothenburg and Antwerp. She received her DNSAP/MFA equivalent from ENSBA: Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1992. Her work has been exhibited at Nordic Heritage Museum, Seattle; Colgate University Museum; Hellenic Museum, Chicago; New York Public Library; Drawing Biennial, London; C.O.D. (Center for Openness and Dialogue), Tirana; Kulturhuset, Stockholm; her gallery exhibitions include Emmanuel Barbault Gallery and Bienvenue Steinberg + Partner, both in New York, and her work is collected by Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA); FNAC — Fonds National d’Art Contemporain, Paris; Statens Konstråd/National Public Art Agency, Stockholm; Collection Teto Ahrenberg, Switzerland, among others. She is a recipient of The Elfi von Kantzow Alvin Art Award.
